The Gifted Education Resource Institute at Purdue University conducts research into the psychology of gifted and talented individuals and effective educational practices for high ability youth. Super Saturday and the GERI Summer Camps, GERI's youth talent development programs, provide challenging learning opportunities and a healthy social environment to a diverse population of high ability children and teens.

 

A center located in the Department of Educational Studies in the Purdue University College of Education, GERI offers graduate programs in gifted education and a licensure program for K-12 educators in Indiana. GERI also provides training to pre-service teachers through hands-on opportunities and training in connection to Super Saturday and the GERI Summer Camps.
Under the leadership of Executive Director Professor Sidney Moon, GERI provides leadership in gifted education, and serves as an advocate for programs and services to high ability students. GERI alumni serve in leadership positons across the United States and abroad and in hundreds of K-12 classrooms.

Enrichment Education Specialist 

Job Description:
This position is responsible for coordinating and running student programs for the Gifted Education Resource Institute (GERI). These programs include Super Saturday, Super Summer, and Summer Residential enrichment programs for talented P-12 youth. Responsibilities also include focusing on public relations and student recruitment for GERI's programs. Twenty-five percent of the full-time 10-month position is designated as a continuing lecturer position. Instructing courses for the Educational Studies Department such as EDPS 430, Creating and Managing Learning Environments, for elementary education majors. In instructing this course, the lecturer will work with undergraduate students, graduate teaching assistants, and a faculty course coordinator to ensure effective delivery of content and methods.
  
Qualifications Required:

 *   Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
 *   One year of education experience.
 *   Knowledge of p-12 education and gifted education.
 *   Strong written and verbal communication skills.
 *   Ability to work with undergraduates, parents, and p-12 children.
 *   Strong organizational and "people" skills.
 *   If candidate does not have a license in gifted education, then we expect
that he/she will complete the 4 licensure courses offered by Purdue
within 3 years of hire.
 
Preferred:
 
 *   Master's degree in education or related field.
 *   Classroom experience.
 *   Program experience.
 *   Teaching  license with gifted license.
